Georgina’s first vocal performance was aged 8 in front of her school class. Although the song, Cilla Black’s classic ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ was probably not age appropriate, she thoroughly enjoyed the experience of singing and connecting with her peer audience and this led to Georgina’s lifelong involvement with the performing arts. During her teens she was an active participant in the music scene and rather fancied herself as Jefferson Aeroplane front woman, Grace Slick, although Barbara Streisand was probably more likely to spring to mind on hearing her. This was born out by her ability to take first place in classical singing competitions, and she enjoyed many productions with Malvern Hills Light Opera Company. Georgina’s 20s saw her touring the UK cabaret circuit where she quickly learned the importance of pleasing the crowd, receiving standing ovations for renditions of such classics as Hi Ho Silver Lining! and ‘Love is in the Air ! However, her 30s saw gigging take a back seat as Georgina concentrated on a nursing career, but she always missed the bright lights and upon her retirement has returned to performing for audiences once more. Georgina has always been a huge admirer of jazz musicians and repertoire from the Great American Songbook era, and decided to immerse herself in Malvern’s current, thriving jazz community. She has recently been inspired by ensembles such as Post Modern Jukebox, Jazzy Stics and Cooltrane Quartet singing contemporary songs reimagined as jazz classics.
