Clockwise: Dan, Hugo, Mikey and Troy

The founder members of Nuns of the Tundra went to school together in Malvern but now the band are based in Bristol with Troy singing and playing guitar, Dan on second guitar, Mikey on bass and Hugo on drums.  They have carved a unique space in the local music scene while also spreading their riff-laden rock all around the globe.

‘We think the Nuns of the Tundra are the saviour of mainstream rock’ said Jaimie Coughlan of Overblown.  Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age described them as ‘Wicked!’

From Humble Beginnings to Battle Ready:

Their journey began in the classic band-forming tradition – a shared love for music and a desire to create something new. They honed their sound through countless gigs, including memorable shows at Worcester’s Marrs Bar and Bristol venues.

Their hard work paid off in 2020 when they faced off against hundreds of unsigned acts in the Firestone Battle of the Bands competition. A runners up, their edgy, earth-infused sound with a psychedelic twist impressed the judges and garnered them a loyal following.

A Blend of Grit and Groove with a tragic twist:

Described as a captivating mix of Queens of the Stone Age and psychedelic rock, Nuns of the Tundra isn’t afraid to push boundaries. Their music is a potent blend of driving guitar riffs, pulsating rhythms, and soaring vocals that will leave you wanting more.  All was going well for the Nuns right up until the Covid lock-down when, without warning, their bass player, Tom, died in his sleep.  The rest of the band were devastated but with Tom’s family’s encouragement, they went back to making music.

What Lies Ahead for the Nuns?

Nuns of the Tundra are hungry for more. Having graduated from the pub scene, their sights are set on bigger stages and they are gigging regularly around the UK – Brighton, London, Cardiff . . .  Malvern Rocks is a is a bit of a homecoming stop on their path to wider recognition.

Their last single ‘Low’ has passed 230,000 world-wide plays on Spotify while their latest release ‘Solid Gold’ has just passed 10,000 streams and was included in Apple Music’s New in Alternative playlist in the USA.  With over 20,000 monthly listeners, their stats look good!

So good in fact, that Saviour Records have signed the band and are producing their first album of which, Solid Gold is their first single on the label.

The new single isn’t just a new song, it’s the start of a new chapter for the band. It comes after the tragic loss of Tom forced them to reevaluate everything.  This led to a deeply personal song about grief and the support system that helps you through it, a fitting tribute to Tom while also marking a new beginning for the band with new members Mikey and Hugo.
